“Steve Ellis is one of the great and unique British songwriters who have the capability to write good songs of his own and to pick winners from other composers.”
Bev Bevan
“No surprise to find Paul Weller (mod champion) featured and Steve’s old friend Roger Daltrey weighing in here … overall a class album that rewards and deserves multiple listens.”
SMART – Seventies Music And Retro Talk
“…there’s much reason to rejoice in the music of Steve Ellis and the aptly titled Best Of Days is definitely one of them.”

Artist: Steve Ellis
Title: Best of Days
File: Rock/Soul
Steve Ellis is one of the defining voices of British music, his throaty vocal styling often likened to that of Steves Marriott and Winwood, all under the spell of the great Ray Charles.
From his time fronting 1960’s charters Love Affair to helming ‘70’s rock acts Ellis and Widowmaker, to recording a slew of acclaimed solo albums in the ‘80s and beyond, he has remained ‘on song’ and unbending in his search for perfection.
For his third solo album, 2008-recorded ‘Best of Days’, Steve assembled a roll call of top notch musical talent with guest appearances from pals Roger Daltrey and Paul Weller to craft one of his finest releases.
New material along with covers including two fine versions of Love Affairs hit “Everlasting Love” are the order of the day. Standouts including a re-working of Steve’s “El Doomo”; “Step Inside” with Weller on guitar and keyboards; Steve’s cover of The Jam man’s song “Brand New Start”; and “Nu Clear Blues” with some dirty harmonica from The Who frontman.
