IN MEMORIAM – Mo Foster (writer, musician, December 22nd 1944 – July 3rd 2023)
We are very saddened to mark the passing of our friend and colleague Mo Foster.
One of Britain’s finest bassists and a good man, Mo succumbed to cancer July 3rd 2023 in London, his home of many years during which he grew a career as one of music’s most in-demand session players.
His CV takes in polished contributions to recordings and performances by the likes of Jeff Beck, Phil Collins, Gil Evans, George Martin, Gerry Rafferty, Brian May, Dusty Springfield, Gary Moore, Ringo Starr, and Scott Walker.
Mo’s solo albums, released during the 1980s and ‘90s and now represented by Singsong Music , showcase his own and sublime instrumental compositions and boast a roll call of talent including Gary Moore, Ray Russell, Rod Argent, Simon Phillips, Frank Ricotti, Ray Warleigh, Iain Bellamy, Gary Husband amongst others.
In a moving tribute to his friend and colleague of half a century, Ray Russell summarised Mo as the person that “made trousers flap and put the groove right in the middle and facilitated strong melody lines” just as his own songs, and what the two wrote together, prove.
Player, writer, raconteur, he will be missed.
Says Ray, “there will be posts of what musical heights Mo achieved – and he was a master…”
RIP Mo Foster, December 22nd 1944 – July 3rd 2023
