Only five tracks, albeit with two treatments off each, but what a find this is.
A joyous mash of genre classics, ‘Blues Reunion’ celebrates a shared passion by Chicagoan native guitarist Joe Jammer and English producer/musician, Mike Vernon, the ’60s talent spotter who brought Fleetwood Mac, Chicken Shack, John Mayall, Savoy Brown and Eric Clapton to come record for his Blue Horizon record label.

Jammer arrived in the UK with Led Zeppelin after working on the band’s second US tour, and went on to pick up a thriving career as a session player in London as well as joining Vernon’s Olympic Runners.
Improvising Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, Sonny Boy Williamson and Jimmy Reed classics (plus one original of their own), the pair recorded the raw acoustic tracks on this release in North Devon, UK in 1978. They languished back in Chicago until Jammer worked up band versions with his house band 40 years later upon returning to the UK.
Hearing them again, Mike, who died in early 2026, celebrated “the authenticity of it all”, remarking “reminded me of one of those old 50s down-home records that came out on labels like Meteor and Sun!”
