After the brightly-lit media frenzy of his time chart-busting through the 1960s behind the drum kit with the talent-packed Yardbirds, Jim McCarty took time out to take stock of his life.
‘Rock Road’ dilutes, in part, what was to follow, occupying a similar space to McCarty’s bands Renaissance and Illusion and self-described upon release of the Steve Hackett-guesting ‘Sitting on The Top Of Time’ as being “about living in the present moment, everything coming from that state of mind, rather than trying be ahead of it, as I so often was.”
This compilation takes in contributions from that pop/rock solo release; Jim’s Americana/soft rock outfit Shoot’s 1973 solo release ‘On The Frontier’; and the crack blues-rock act that he took to pub residencies in 1980’s London along with Ray Majors (British Lions) on dual lead guitars and Rod Demick (Strawbs) on bass, recording ‘Two Steps Ahead’ in the process.
All of this underpinned by the percussive weight of the man who drummed with guitar giants Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck – back then and still today.
