ZZEBRA were at the forefront of mid-70’s Prog/Affro/Jazz/Rock/Funk and not surprisingly, being created by an amalgamation of two highly rated bands in IF and OSIBISA.
Add to that talent pool Liam Genockey, Steve Byrd and JOHN McCOY – all to later play in Gillan – and you had a driving and highly creative band.
Its self-titled debut was released in 1974 to a resounding welcome from public and critics alike. This reissue includes bonus material in two singles mixes plus the band’s theme music to Sean Connery’s period cult sci-fi film, ‘Zardoz’.
Zzebra was a hard-working prog rock band, its improvisational nature coupled with the sheer power of the rhythm section allowing it to constantly experiment without losing the audience, as evidenced on further releases.
