They toured with Black Sabbath, wowed the Old Grey Whistle Test, were acclaimed by peers Jeff Beck, AC/DC, Ozzy Osbourne, Led Zeppelin’s Peter Grant offered to manage them…
Formed in 1972, Liverpool rock act Nutz signed to A&M to make four albums, their self-titled debut under the eye of Queen producer John Antony getting them noticed from the off.
By last album ‘Live Cutz’, the band had supported UFO and Black Sabbath on tour and played major music events securing a strong fan base.
This March 1977 live show taped for local radio in Nottingham reveals the band’s sheer brio in a blitz of showy classic rock with glints of metal shining under the surface.
On the sudden and tragic death of drummer John Mylett, Nutz folded, lead guitarist Mick Devonport going on to play with Lion in the US, while bassist Keith Mulholland joined Deep Purple’s Ian Gillan in Garth Rockett & The Moonshiners with Chris Norman of Smokie.
Singer Dave Lloyd formed AOR band 2AM before touring with Uli Jon Roth. He later recorded for television ads including chocolate brands Flake and Yorkie and a ‘Budweiser’ commercial, later released as a single.
