One of THE groups that can lay real claim to be dug deep into the foundations of popular music is The Yardbirds. Singsong Music releases live material by the band this month …

But first…

Formed in London back in 1963, they blew a highway through the charts with a succession of barn-storming original compositions like “Over Under Sideways Down”, “Heart Full of Soul”, “Shapes of Things” and “For your Love” alongside memorable covers of Delta blues classics like “I’m A Man”, “Good Morning Little Schoolgirl” and “Smokestack Lightning”.

It’s not only the music – an exciting mash-up of r’nb, pop, rock and psych – that drove the fans to their gigs. It was the performances, heady, hyper amphetamine-fuelled, mashing short, sharp bursts with extenuated improvisation. And the players: when Eric Clapton left the band, Jeff Beck signed up. Jimmy Page was on board a year later.

That’s why we’re so excited to be releasing and marketing a live set gleaned from US tours in 2010/11 by the band that pack so much of what made them so special back in the day. Performances that truly stand the test of time.
